5 Myths About Fibromyalgia

Myth #4 – Fibromyalgia only affects middle-aged women

In reality, fibromyalgia affects men and women of all ages.

While research indicates that about 90% of fibromyalgia sufferers are female, it is believed that a higher percentage of men with fibromyalgia go undiagnosed. So the percentage of men with fibromyalgia may be higher than 10% that is typically quoted.

Increasingly, we are hearing reports of children and teens being diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Most of those with juvenile fibromyalgia are diagnosed between the ages of 13 and 15.
